See, this is the problem with rallying, I’m not well versed enough to detail what it is about rallying that makes people do it without making it a joke. In games I am, but only in games, so don’t book me to do any of this unless you want a brown skidmark somewhere other than the dirt. What human being with a working brain thinks, “ I’m going to get in a car with a German man, drive at 50 MPH towards a muddy cliff edge, and pull off a perfect handbrake turn around a bend to save us ,” then gets in the bloody car anyway? You have to be off your rocker to do that. Ok, I think that’s enough poking and prodding, I should talk about the actual game. ![]() It is also my second (maybe third) time playing a game in the series, and I’m still hopeless at listening to a man yelling directions in my ear at velocity speeds for dislodging Alvin, Simon, and Theodore from their tree at the bottom of the ravine. This series alone has two 4s, two 3s, and one 2 with the other 2 in roman numerals. Yes, I’ll never understand the naming convention either. Nonetheless, WRC 9 is the 16th official World Rally Championship series game. I’ve better understood the BBC’s Shipping Forecast, and half of that is made up on the spot! “ Left, over crest, 6, right 60, 200, flat 200, finish ,” it all makes about as much sense as every lawyer that tells you the draconian details of the language in a contract. You have to listen to someone shouting in your ear in a whole other language that you were never taught. That, I think, is one of the most annoying things about actually doing rallying. Yes, I know I’m about a month late on the review, but I’ve been busy fighting with the co-driver. For rallying, it is less about speed and precision and more about listening to a German bloke talk about “ Sechs ” like the pervert he is. It is fight or flight moments that keep you in the race. For Formula 1, you are driving around wide and bendy circuits at high speed while trying to get around a car that costs millions. I would compare it to F1, but there is a different feeling behind that. It is about driving fast on very tight courses while there are hazards on every side, including in front of you. While I don’t find it too distracting, if they could fix it that would be awesome. There is something about rallying that is inherently exciting in concept. Only complaint is how some shadows are handled on some stages, as they drawn right in front of the car, literally. Lots of features, topnotch gameplay, nice presentation for the Switch, it’s a 9/10 for me. So if you add all that to an already very good game, you simply get the ultimate WRC experience, the best rally game ever released on a handheld, period. The Corolla is one of my favorite WRC cars ever, so very happy with that!!! - I might be wrong on this one, but I think lighting has been improved. Some classic cars are available, such as the Corolla (available through DLC), Xsara, and Focus. I attached a couple screenshots so you can get an idea of what’s possible. You even have a showcase mode from the main menu, where you can select the car, weather, etc. This one is pretty nice, all the features you’d expect are there. Ě photo mode!!!! I just love photo mode in videogames. It really adds a lot to the aesthetics, by “hiding” some of the not-so-pretty assets. ![]() Especially on Switch where the surroundings are far from being detailed, with low resolution, etc. This might not seem like a big deal, but during replays it is like night and day with respect to the overall looks of the game. ![]() The most important one is that the Argentina stages are now all playable with a perfectly constant 30 fps. Such as the erratic “jump” the car was making before it would get to the start line, or some “missing text” glitch on the reports you got after an event, or those horrendous water splashes showing up before the car would actually touch the water, or in my case being stuck in WRC 2 forever despite performing all the recommended actions and being WRC2 champ multiple times (heard that it was a bug very early on). Main reasons for me are : -Ěll the glitches that I would personally be irritated by, were fixed. I’ve put quite a lot time on WRC 8, and though both games are not that different from each other, I do think that WRC 9 is worth a purchase even if you own the previous installment. I’ve put quite a lot time on WRC 8, and though both I strongly think this game deserves more attention and I’m glad Kylotonn made this port. I strongly think this game deserves more attention and I’m glad Kylotonn made this port.
